The Professional Recyclers of Pennsylvania (PROP) recognized the Town of McCandless and Ohio Township with Waste Watcher awards for their joint efforts in holding a free construction material recycling event.
In 2013, over three box trucks worth of appliances, buildingmaterials, cabinets, countertops, doors, flooring, glass and mirrors, hardware, interior items, light fixtures, masonry, office items, plumbing fixtures, tile and wallpaper, windows and shutters was recovered from the residents of McCandless and Ohio Township.
“It is rewarding to see the continued interest and energy residents apply to recycling, especially items that are difficult to dispose of,” said Town Manager Toby Cordek.
McCandless and Ohio Township hold two free E-Waste collections per year. The collections are held for four hours and occasionally feature a hard-to-recycle item, such as construction material. The next E-Waste collection is scheduled for January 2015.
The Pennsylvania Waste Watchers program recognizes recycling, waste reduction, reuse, and composting programs in Pennsylvania that have exhibited exemplary performance. This is the third consecutive year both municipalities have been honored with this award.
