Proposal to limit usage of taxpayer-funded Heritage Center

July 14, 2018 ~ Access McCandless Staff

A proposal to severely limit usage of the McCandless Northern Allegheny Heritage Center will be voted on at Council’s Regular Business Meeting on July 23, 2018.

The proposal limits usage to “a way that supports and relates to the mission of the Heritage Center (which states, “The McCandless/Northern Allegheny Heritage Center promotes an understanding of twentieth century life in the Town of McCandless and its surrounding region in the North Hills of Pittsburgh. Displays, outreach programs, and a reference library are provided for the education and enjoyment of patrons of all ages. The Center encourages participation and inspiration through its educational offerings, which serve the needs of the local public.”). The Center cannot be rented to be used as a meeting or party room.”

With this change in policy, the Center cannot be rented or used by outside groups who wish to use the facility for purposes other than local history events, limiting potential income to offset any further taxpayer contributions.

The proposal is shown below.
